1
Know your character by researching your role because it allows you to understand the motivations and create a backstory, which allows you to deliver your lines with more credence.
2
Memorize your lines so you know them forward, backwards, upside down and sideways. This practice will allow you to use your voice more effectively and be present in the moment. Being present in the moment will help you focus on the emotions and message instead of worrying about saying your lines correctly.
3
Never change your character’s dialogue without permission from the director or writer. Dialogue and copy is written in a certain way for a very specific reason.
4
Connect with character’s emotions and embrace vulnerability.
5
Use your body language and movement in your performances because it will humanize your character and convey even more information about your character.
6
Listen to and understand the Director’s vision for your character and reflect on the feedback.
7
Connect with your fellow actors, rehearse and collaborate.
8
Take care of your body and mind because you need to be at your best, physically and mentally in order to perform at your highest level. We highly suggest avoiding alcoholic beverages or any mind-altering substances during your shoot.
9
Great acting often involves taking risks and trying new things, so don’t be afraid to embrace a challenge and experiment with different approaches to a scene or character.
10
Most importantly relax, breathe and have fun. This is the moment you have been waiting for.
